Fabulous Fishing in Ireland

Ireland has always been recognised as one of the most outstanding angling destinations in Europe.

Fortview House is perfectly situated in the middle of Ireland's most famous coarse fishing area where the roach, rudd, bream, hybrids, perch, and tench are most prolific and can be found throughout the whole of the system including the rivers Erne, Annalee and Woodford. The area is ideal for Pike Fishing.

There are over 300 lakes or loughs, as they are known in Ireland, within 10km of Fortview House, almost all of which are free to fish. Killykeen Forest Park is only a 20 minute drive away, as are the fishing centres at Arva, Bawnboy and Cootehill.

There are far too many other local hot spots to be able to list them here, and there are some which are only fished by Fortview House guests and are not genearally known or publicised.

One thing is guaranteed, you will never be stuck for somewhere to fish. Rod Licences are not required for coarse fishing in the Republic of Ireland.

Fortview is a family-run farmhouse where you will enjoy a personal warm welcome with all the comforts of a real Irish home, sitting beside a glowing turf fire.

The 6 ensuite bed and breakfast accomodation combine the comfort of modern living with the peace of country living. The breakfast will delight your taste buds with home baked Irish breads, organic free-range eggs and home reared meats.

Catherine, your host can help you trace your ancestors, and find activities and things to do in Cavan and nearby Monaghan from a game of golf to a gillie for fishing to make your stay memorable in Ireland.

Volvo Boat Race Galway 2009
Sunday, 19 April 2009 16:40

Galway will be host to the 10th biggest sailing event in the world on 23rd May 2009. Having raced over the Atlantic from Boston, USA, it will have a two week break in Galway before it's next race to Goeteborg, Sweden. The four yearly race, known in sailing circles as The Round the World Race, covers around 39,000 miles in total this year. It will visit around eleven ports in Europe, the Middle East, India, South East Asia, China and the US as well as Scandinavia and Russia.

In-port racing will take place at every port and the Galway docks will soon be being transformed from a mainly fishing and naval dock to host this important global event. A race village is being planned in the centre of the old seafarers' town.

Spectators will marvel at the world's fastest sailing boats which will be moored in Galway. There will be a three day competition in the port and spectators can marvel at it from the prom at Salthill in Galway Bay. The prom is 1.5 miles long and a fantastic vantage point. You can walk to it from the Race Village.

Also planned is a host of food and wine fairs where you can delight in the best of Irish cuisine, interesting exhibitions, fantastic live entertainment, street theatre and a breathtaking fireworks display.

The race commences again on June 6th when the it goes on to Sweden. To be in Galway anytime is enchanting and this nautical event is one not to be missed this year.
