Limerick lies on the banks of the winding River Shannon, it is here that the river meets the Atlantic Ocean.
Limerick City is situated here in this largely rural community in the South West of Ireland. Visitors flock to scenic Lough Gur, a fascinating Neolothic settlement, to King John's Castle, to the Hunt Museum and Foynes Flying Boat Museum. This is the third largest city in Ireland, it's City Charter is older than that of London. It offers excellent shopping, dining and entertainment, theatre lovers can enjoy plays at The Belltable Arts Centre.
You will see quaint towns and villages all over Limerick. Castleconnell which is on the banks of the Shannon with its beautiful thatched cottages must be seen as well as County Limerick's medieval churches. Go horse riding here or do some coarse angling. Why not sail on the Shannon too and view the magnificent scenery.
