The Four Courts

The Four Courts and Custom House, designed by James Gandon and built between 1786 and 1802, are the finest examples of neoclassical architecture in the City of Dublin.

The buildings were fired on by British troops in 1916 and shelled by revolutionary Michael Collins in 1922. It was restored in 1932 and visitors today can see the evidence of the damage done by the shelling.

It is now the seat of the High and Supreme Courts of Ireland and the Law Library.
